About the Association

Calgary Wheelchair Curling Association

As a non-profit organization, we do rely on volunteers to assist players in getting onto the ice surface and positioning of the curling stones.

We are always looking for volunteers who are interested in curling, who are curlers or have curled.  If that describes you and you have a couple hours of time to donate on Saturday afternoons, please contact us on how you can be more involved.

THANK YOU!

The Calgary Wheelchair Curling Association (CWCA) is a non-profit organization, started in 2005 by a few people in wheelchairs wanting to get back to a game they played prior to using a wheelchair.  From that vision and determination, the CWCA was born and has continued to grow in membership and awareness to the disabled community and among able-bodied curlers in Calgary and surrounding areas.

The CWCA meets on most Saturday afternoons from 3:15-5:30pm at the Garrison Curling Club 2288 – 47 Avenue SW in Calgary.  Each week members participate in games, skill development and social fun.

Bruno Yizek, one of the founding members, was on the Team Canada  Paralympic Team that won GOLD at the 2010 Paralympics in Vancouver.  Congratulations Bruno!!!

The CWCA has hosted numerous events including a Western Canada tournament with teams from Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta, demonstrations to various groups and associations, plus the popular competition friendly 2-on-2 tournaments.

The CWCA members have also gone to represent the Province as Alberta Champions at the Canadian Championships 10 times.  And at those competitions they have won 5 Silver medals and 1 Bronze medal.  In addition, we have had 3 members that have been named to Team Canada and competed in a number of World Championships and International competitions.

So, if you are looking for a great recreational sport during these long winters, one that is committed to fun and recreation with an great group of people, a sport that will challenge you personally if you let it, or allow you to enjoy friendly competition, then you got to try wheelchair curling.

Please send us a email with your contact information and we can provide you more details on how you can be involved as a player or volunteer.
